KAILUA-KONA — A wind advisory is in effect for leeward areas of North and South Kohala through Sunday morning.
National Weather Service forecasters based in Honolulu said east winds of 25-35 mph with localized gusts topping 45 mph could be expected over leeward Kohala areas through 9 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters cautioned the winds are strong enough to down trees and cause power outages. Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, are urged to drive with extreme caution.
